Origin/Development
QS Qualität und Sicherheit GmbH was founded in Autumn 2001. At this time, the leading associations and organisations of the food retail industry joined together in order to create a voluntary basis for a system of proofed quality assurance. Initially the QS system was developed for meat and meat products. In 2004, quality assurance for fruit, vegetables and potatoes was added. This created the world's first cross-stage and company quality assurance system for the manufacture, processing and marketing of foodstuffs. Today, QS is one of the most successful systems for quality assurance of fresh foodstuffs.
Development/Outlook
In a globalised world, quality requirements are not affected by borders. As a result, QS is open to all who wish to create trust in foodstuffs by means of transparency and cross-stage quality assurance. The harmonisation and cooperation with quality assurance systems both at home and abroad is thus of great significance to QS.
And QS is also a benefit for the participating companies. And the quality assurance system creates security and reliability. In addition, it secures and expands important and valuable trade channels. Until now, in excess of 100,000 system partners for meat and meat products and over 19,000 system partners in the fresh fruit, vegetables and potatoes sector have chosen the QS system.
