Participation

All companies in the food and animal feed sectors that take part in the QS system are working towards a common goal, making the food production processes from field, through barn and to the shop transparent for the consumers. They are obliged to maintain the standards defined by QS and to permit these to be monitored. There is a distinction made between the participants of the QS system that are incorporated contractually (system partners) and companies authorised to supply that do not have system contracts with QS.

System partner

Depending on stage and the structural situation, the registration of the so-called system aspirants and the participation of companies in the QS system looks as follows:

• Companies at the animal feed stage (manufacturers and traders of animal feed), slaughter/deboning companies, processing (meat), fruit traders and traders including wholesalers (meat) and food retailers (legally independent companies in the food retail trade with individual supply conditions) participate directly in the QS system.
• Agricultural or gardening companies, animal transporters, subsidiaries of the food retailer and the associated markets as well as companies in the butchery trade are indirectly incorporated in the QS system via coordinators.
• The majority of different individual animal feed manufacturers, and in particular, the smaller manufacturers are able to participate in the QS system via system coordinators. The system coordinator support the companies when it comes to fulfilling the QS criteria and takes on the responsibility for the implementation of product check at the individual animal feed manufacturer.

After registering in the QS system and successfully concluding an audit, the certification body enters the test report in the QS software platform. Then the future system partner receives their system contract. Only when this contract has been signed by the system partner and countersigned by QS does the system partner receive the authorisation to supply into the QS system for the company and the relevant audited sites.
