Of maximum values and thresholds
Only companies that participate in QS residue monitoring are permitted to supply fruit, vegetables and potatoes into the QS scheme, this is the contractual basis for producers, wholesalers and the food retail industry. When it comes to producers, the coordinator is responsible for handling participation in the residue monitoring program.
With the assistance of the monitoring process, the program examines whether the products contain the maximum levels of plant protection products, nitrates and other substances.
If the maximum levels are exceeded or a product is detected that is not permitted, the producer is blocked in the QS software platform for the relevant culture and may no longer supply into the QS scheme. They are then obliged to accept consultation. In addition, a sanction procedure is started against them. This may result in a fine, an increased frequency of examinations, or in the event of repeated violations, exclusion from the QS scheme.
The producer can only then be eligible for delivery again if test results prove that the products are safe again.
More information on this topic can be found in the monitoring guideline.
