Basically all on farm mixers must participate in the feed monitoring. On farm mixers are all livestock farmers growing certain feed by themselves or buying it. These feed include agricultural raw products, which can be used unchanged (e.g. hay, silage, grain, rape).
Cattle farmers are usually on farm mixers because they feed self-produced roughage. Pig and poultry farmers, who refine self-produced grain or rapeseed meal, are on farm mixers.
If you use your own or purchased primary products for animal feeding, you have to report this to your responsible coordinators. The coordinator prepares a sampling plan (random sample control plan) for all bundled locations and organizes the sampling for your location.
Plant managers who are QS-certified for crop farming/forage production/grassland production are excluded from the obligatory feed monitoring. They are free to participate in the feed monitoring.
As a livestock farmer you must not participate in the feed monitoring, if you only use complete feed in your company (complete feed satisfy all the nutritional needs of an animal, because they are, due to their composition, enough as a daily ration). The same applies also for companies which are QS-certified for crop farming/forage production/grassland production.
Your participation in the feed monitoring is organized through your coordinator. He selects the locations on which samples are to be taken. The coordinator also instructs the sampling and informs the locations about the analysis results.
As a livestock farmer you have to give your coordinator information about which feed are used and how much is fed per year or how many animals are kept on your farm. Please also remember to contact your coordinator as soon as this will change.
The old bread must come from a bakery, which is officially registered as a feed producer and has a QS approval. Whether your supplier fulfills the necessary conditions and is eligible to deliver, you can see in the QS database on www.qs-plattform.de. For questions, particularly when no feed registration is available, please contact your coordinator.
