Companies storing meat and meat products can participate in the QS scheme via a separate guideline immediately

Since 1 January 2017, companies that store meat and meat products on behalf of QS scheme participants can be certified according to the new guideline Storage of Meat and Meat Products. By integrating them into the scheme, QS makes a decisive contribution to closing the value chain and to a cross stage quality assurance for meat and meat products.

The most important requirements of the new guideline Storage of Meat and Meat Products concern the adherence of temperature and hygiene specifications. In addition, the companies participating commit themselves to ensure a gapless documentation and traceability of the stored products. The adherence to the requirements as well as their implementation is periodically verified by qualified auditors during audits. Due to the certification according to the new guideline, the companies can send a clear signal to their customers, showing that all operational processes are not only checked by state control but also by independent bodies.

Since the beginning of the year, companies commissioned for storing can be certified according to the new guideline and participate in the QS scheme on a voluntarily basis, initially. Starting 1 January 2019, after a two-year transition period, the QS-certification or certification in line with a recognized standard will become mandatory. Therefore, as of 2019, every company performing storage services commissioned by QS-scheme participants has to be QS-approved for the production scope Storage of Meat and Meat Products.
