Laboratory managers exchange knowledge

Im Labor

More than 60 participants attended the annual event Meeting with laboratory managers – residue monitoring on 5 February, 2013 in Berlin. Like the QS scheme itself, this event becomes more and more international. A simultaneous translation of all lectures guaranteed that all of the 32 foreign participants were able to understand everything.

This year they were informed about news from the QS scheme, e.g. the implementation of the Code of Conduct, and new developments in the field of the analysis of residues in fruits and vegetables. Dr. Matthias Heinzler from the Landesbetrieb Hessisches Landeslabor reported in his guest lecture about the import controls of vegetable foods at the Frankfurt am Main Airport. He referred to experiences that were made by risk-based sampling. Pesticide residues, for example, can alternate within one batch. That can be caused by the mixture of different batches at packaging or the deviation at application.

All in all it can be said that participants and lecturers were very pleased about this event. Regarding the answering of questions direct contact is superior to phone calls and emails. Therefore we will host another meeting of the laboratory managers next year, said Jens Schäfer, who supports laboratories in the QS scheme.
